Digital Photography skills for beginners

In this course you will cover the basics of photography techniques in terms of shutter speed, aperture, ISO and focussing, as well as lenses and composition. The aim of this course is to give you control over your DSLR or mirrorless camera and learn a variety of skills, which will enable you to use the different modes and functions of your camera effectively to achieve creative photographs. You will acquire a practical understanding of how to apply photographic techniques in different situations and achieve well-exposed photographs. As part of the course, you will also be introduced to a number of established photographers and will explore composition and light. Between sessions you will be set tasks, so as to practice the learnt skills. You will discuss your photographs and get feedback from the tutor and peers. At the end of the course you will have the confidence to take well-composed photographs using your camera’s manual mode.

They will become acquainted with different types of clay, tools, techniques, glazing, surfacing materials, and firing processes. From wedging to pinching, coiling to slab building, and even mould making, students will acquire essential skills to bring their artistic visions to life. A key emphasis of the course is on developing individuality and personal aesthetics. Through material investigation and experimentation, students will have the opportunity to expose their unique artistic voice. Thought-provoking projects, centred around engaging concepts, processes, and techniques, will inspire critical thinking and creativity, allowing students to create innovative ceramic artworks. Studio safety must always be a priority. Students will learn the importance of using appropriate protective gear, mastering basic tools and equipment, and maintaining a clean and efficient workspace. Composition Workshop C

Composition Workshop C is a course which will enable students to build pieces of music through a mixture of taught techniques and utilisation of students’ own musical ideas. Students will be given stimuli and frameworks to write pieces and there will be continuous tutor feedback and class discussion of the works as they build up. Performances of pieces may happen in class, or by ��Ƶ groups that students write for, or for external opportunities. This is a course for composers and music-makers of all kinds. Most composers in the group use western notation to compose but feel free to join the course if you use text scores, improvisation or computer technologies as part of your practice. You do not have to have done Composition Workshop A or B to attend this class.

Charleston to Swing Dance – Level 1

This course is designed as an introduction to social Lindy Hop, the famous African-American partnered dance from Harlem New York that sprang up in response to the new swing style of popular jazz music. Lindy Hop took the world by storm in the 1930s and was the forerunner to West Coast Swing and Jive. You will learn the two basic Lindy Hop rhythms and some steps that they can lead and follow them, and how to freestyle with them in a social dance setting, Each class will end with 15 minutes dedicated entirely to freestyle (with tutor guidance & feedback) to support your practice and your confidence to attend social swing dance events. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course.
